You Can Sleep Well

You Can Sleep Well

I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. (Psalm 3:5-6)

David just woke from his sleep (v 5).

He was able to sleep well because he knew the Lord was watching over him.

Many people told David that there would be no help from God.  But David encouraged himself in the Lord.

He trusted in God’s promises rather than man’s word, and he was able to sleep well despite being surrounded by numerous enemies (v 1, 6)!

Don’t listen to men.  Look to God.  He is like a shield that surrounds you (v 3).  He watches over you (v 5).  He will save you from the thousands of enemies surrounding you (v 6).

God will defend you against enemies on the inside – worries, fear, disappointments, frustrations, doubt, low self-esteem.

He will defend you against enemies on the outside – slander, persecution, dishonesty, sickness, death.

The Lord will sustain you.

Trust in Him and do not be afraid.  You can sleep well.  God will stay awake for you.
