Think On These Things

Think On These Things

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Phil 4:8)

You are what you think.  If you have a clean heart, you will produce clean behaviour.

“Watch your thoughts, they become words;
watch your words, they become actions;
watch your actions, they become habits;
watch your habits, they become character;
watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

The Apostle Paul emphasizes the need for a good thought life.

The Christian life is more than just the external.

The Christian life is something internal and that is more challenging.

Before every action we take, a battle is fought in our minds to determine whether we do this or that.

Paul tells us how we can win this battle of our mind to ensure our actions will be successful and effective.  But first, we must renew our thought life.

Keep our mind on the good things.

Our mind is going to set itself on something. The question is on what?

Thinking here means more than just thinking.  It means to meditate, ponder, give mental value, how to put them into practice.

Paul gives us eight virtues to keep our mind on.  Fill your thoughts with these things. These kind of thoughts are where we must direct our thoughts every day.

The best way is to keep the bad thoughts out of your mind is to concentrate on the good thoughts. We can only think one thing at a time.

Think on the things that are good and honorable.

That is the positive way Paul gives us to keep our minds right before God.
