Peace of God

Peace of God

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6-7).

Why don’t we have peace in our hearts and minds?

Because we struggle with many things.  We struggle within ourselves with ourselves.  With other people because of envy, their personalities, or we just don’t like them.  With circumstances that we can’t control – our friendships, money, job, sickness.  Or we worry about our future.

We allow all these to rob us of our peace.

How can we have peace?

When we focus on the source of peace – Jesus, the Prince of Peace (Isa 9:6).

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you (Isa 26:3).

When we relinquish control over our lives to Him.

We trust in Him who made us who we are.

We thank Him for the people in our lives.  He has put them there for us.  God is using them to teach us to be wiser, stronger, to relate and lead better.

We thank Him in all circumstances.  We turn control over to Him.

For I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content (Phil 4:11).

Jesus assured His disciples they will have His peace.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid (John 14:27).

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world (John 16:33).

Keep trusting in God even when things don’t make sense.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful (Col 3:15).
