When You Have Been Wronged

When You Have Been Wronged

When someone wrongs you, your first reaction is to fight back.

You need to justify yourself, to prove that you are innocent.

You wonder why someone would do that to you.

He must be mistaken.  Or he did it on purpose.  But why?

The first thing to do is to commit this matter to the Lord.

He knows everything.  Even before it happens.

If you are innocent, God will defend you.

“As for me, I would seek God, and to God would I commit my cause, who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number: he gives rain on the earth and sends waters on the fields; he sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety. He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success. … (Job 5:8-12).

Fret not yourself because of evildoers … Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act (Ps 37:5).

God is a God of justice.  He will right every wrong.  He destroys liars (Ps 5:6).

Secondly, trust Him.

If God does not act immediately, trust Him that He knows what to do.  And He will act at a time He knows best.

Even if others misunderstood you, know the Lord is with you.  He knows you have been wronged.

Wait on Him.  If He does not vindicate you now, He will do so in eternity.

No evil will come upon you without the Lord’s knowledge.  No evil will happen outside His plan for you.

Joseph was betrayed by his brothers.  But the Lord wanted to use him to save Israel.

Saul sought to kill David out of jealousy.  But the Lord protected David because He had anointed David to be the next king.

Thirdly, forgive the wrongdoer.

Fourthly, examine yourself.  On your part, make sure you are not in the wrong.

Determine to stay the course of righteousness.  Do what is right and pleasing to the Lord.

Do not take matters into your own hands.

“Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent” (Ps 4:4).

If you have done wrong in any way, confess it.  If others have done wrong, let God deal with them.
