The Cover-Up

The Cover-Up

The story of David is well-known.

He committed adultery with Bathsheba.
She became pregnant, and then he had Bathsheba’s husband, Uriah, killed.

David thought for a while that his sin was covered, that he had done what he needed to do to get out of this mess and salvage his reputation.
The cover-up didn’t work very well. It never does.

Psalm 51 is David’s prayer of confession before God as he spills out his heart, and Psalm 32 is the Psalm that David also prayed, most probably in connection with Bathsheba, as he thanked God for His forgiveness.

The one thing that is most difficult for us is to simply be honest with God and say, “All the closets of my life are now open to You. Everything is exposed. Nothing is hidden from Your sight. You know it’s there, and now I am acknowledging it is there, too.”

When we acknowledge our sin-
– we can walk in freedom.

Charles Wesley put it this way:
“My chains fell off, my heart was free.
I rose, went forth and followed Thee.”

David says it like this:
“Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity and in whose spirit there is no deceit.” Psalm 32:1–2.

Come to Jesus today and say-
“Here I am, exposed in Your presence.” Begin there, and then go to those whom you have wronged and say, “At all costs, I want to be right before God and man.”

“Dear God, my heart is open to You. I know that You see my sin, and that You love me and will forgive me. Please free me from sin’s burden and guilt and make my heart clean before You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
