O Lord, Deliver My Life

O Lord, Deliver My Life

O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath. [2] Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am languishing; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are troubled.  (Psalm 6:1-2)

David was old and sick.  He felt like he was dying (v 2b, 4-5).

He was also being surrounded by enemies (v 8-10).

He felt God’s rebuke and discipline (v 1).

Parents rebuke their children before disciplining them.

God’s discipline is for our good (Heb 12:5-6).

His discipline trains and shapes us to become spiritually mature.

God may use sickness to discipline us.  Or He may speak through people to us.

David cried out to God for mercy (v 2, 4).

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not (Lam 3:22).

Thank God that He is merciful to us.  His steadfast love will sustain us.

David sees the wickedness around him.  But he also sees his own imperfection, and prays for deliverance (v 8-10).

The Lord will discipline us but He will never give up on us.

Ask God for His mercy.  Don’t waver in your faith in Him.  He will deliver you.
