The Precious Gift
As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious. (1 Pet 2:4)
Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious. (1 Pet 2:7)
In the story of “The Lord of the Rings,” Gollum obtained a gold ring. He lusted after it so much that he called it “my precious.”
If you treasure someone, they are precious to you.
Jesus is God’s precious Son.
He is in the bosom of His Father (John 1:18).
He is God’s dearly beloved Son, enjoying intimacy with the Father, in the centre of His heart.
At His baptism, God called out, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matt 3:17).
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? (Rom 8:32)
For whom did He give up His Son?
For us – sinners who deserve only the judgment of God for our rebellion.
Will you give up your son to save others? Yet God gave His precious Son for us.
God in His abundant grace and mercies, sent Him to this world to die in our place.
Such wondrous grace!
Jesus is very precious in God’s sight. He is also very precious to us.
Thank God for the precious Gift given to us at Christmas. The precious Gift of Jesus!
