Walk Worthy of the Lord

Walk Worthy of the Lord

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. (Col 1:9-10)

Paul prayed that the Colossian believers be filled with the knowledge of God’s will.

“Be filled” is in the passive tense.  Believers cannot fill themselves with this knowledge.

They are to be filled by God, the same manner they are to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

God’s will is revealed in His Word.

As we seek God in His Word, we allow His Word to fill us.

We surrender our hearts to obey what He says even if it is uncomfortable, inconvenient, or unpleasant.

Paul also mentioned a similar thing in Col 3:16:  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.

What we are filled with controls us.

If the Holy Spirit fills us, we are led by the Spirit.

If the Word of God fills us, we are controlled by the laws and principles of the Word of God.

When we know the will of God revealed in and through the Word, we will know how to walk in a manner that is pleasing to the Lord.

Right knowledge leads to right behavior.

The result of knowing God’s will is that we might live in such a way that shows we belong to the Lord.

By the way we live, we prove to be His children and deserve to be called His children.

It is our responsibility to read and study God’s Word that we might know and live in a way that pleases the Lord.

A life that pleases God is fruitful in bearing the fruit of the Spirit, good works, praising God, and winning souls.

It is also growing deeper in our personal knowledge of God.

Are we walking worthy of the Lord?
